No. Despite some sensationalist headlines from some newspapers, the UK government's Environment Improvement Plan 2023 has confirmed that there are no plans to ban wood burning stoves.
-
Yes. Wood is considered a sustainable fuel source because it is renewable and carbon neutral. A carbon cycle can be completed in just a few years as trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere as they grow, and when they are burned as fuel, they release the same amount of carbon dioxide back into the atmosphere. New trees absorb carbon at a faster rate than older growth so as long as new trees are planted the carbon cycle is completed.

Yes. Burning anything releases particulates into the air. However modern Ecodesign stoves meet the highest standards for efficiency and emissions set out by The Ecodesign Regulation 2022. This means modern wood burning stoves are more efficient and have lower emissions than ever before. They are very different to older appliances and offer a very low carbon, sustainable and renewable solution to home heating.

Yes. We install DEFRA exempt Ecodesign appliances which meet efficiency requirements needed to burn wood in a smoke control zone. Smoke control zones are in place to prevent people burning wood on open fires and older appliances. Smoke output is greatly reduced with modern designs so rest assured you can have a cosy fire in your lounge if you wish.
